July - Newsletter 25 (10th July 2014)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Reports home – I hope you all received your child’s report yesterday. Please remember that our open evening is on Wednesday 23rd July from 6 – 8pm and we’d love to see you all there.

I’m pleased to let you know the details of the class teachers for next year. All classes will spend at least one session with their new teachers before the summer holidays to help aid transition – as a one form entry school with stable staff and many whole school events most of the children will already know their new teacher and have seen their new classroom which certainly helps when moving up next year. Mrs Chamberlain will be coming in for more sessions with the current Reception class before the break so they get to know her better too.

Our Zambian teacher visitors had a wonderful time and were full of praise for the children. They taught them some Zambian playground games and spoke to everyone in assembly and class about their home country. The children got a lot out of the visit and asked some excellent questions. Miss Rainey will be visiting Zambia in the October half term break and will bring back information, photos and stories to share with the children. We even have an international sports event planned!

We are looking forward to the Junior Production of Let Loose next week! There are still extra tickets available – please come into school or send us a note in with the money and your child’s name and class if you’d like any of these.

PTA Picnic – on Friday 18th July from 6:30pm. £1 on the door. All children must be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for them. Bring your picnic and enjoy the lovely sunshine on the school field (we hope!). There will be an inflatable and some fun and games too.

Well done to our Year 6 children for all of their hard work and achievement throughout school (and to all the staff and parents for their hard work too!). The KS2 results are shown below:

Well done as well to our Year 5 and 6 mathematicians who have won the Cheadle Hulme High School Maths Challenge this year. Our individual winners from school were John and Hannah in Year 5 and Caitlin in Year 6. They all went to CHHS last night to pick up their individual trophy and found out that the school had won the whole competition which was between all of the primary schools in Cheadle Hulme. All of the children in Year 5 and 6 took part and they had to complete some complex maths problem solving activities and present their answers.

Music Lessons – There will be a letter coming home next week about music lessons from September. Children in Years 4, 5 and 6 are able to learn a woodwind instrument (clarinet, flute or saxophone) or a guitar. These are paid for lessons with a specialist music teacher from Stockport Music Service. From September the price of these lessons will rise to £6 each (i.e. £198 per year, based on an average of 33 lessons over the year – children often receive more lessons than this but do not pay any more). This is still a rate subsidised by school and although we are having to reduce the subsidy due to budget constraints it still represents good value for money.

Parents/relatives of children who are learning woodwind instruments are invited to an assembly on Thursday 17th July at 10:00am and parents/relatives of children who are learning the guitar are invited to an assembly on Wednesday 23rd July at 9:30am.

A Note from Mini Kidz - Mini Kidz is a new Ofsted registered (DBS checked) before and after school club based on Blenheim Road. Jill (paediatric nurse) and Sally (teacher) provide childcare in a safe, friendly and fun home environment. As well as breakfast and snacks they can also provide a healthy dinner and help with homework. Contact email: minikidz@gmail.com or tel. 07980 107505.

Mini Kidz is in addition to the existing before and after school provision of Stay and Play and child minders such as TLC childcare.

Class Photos – unfortunately there was an error on some of the class photos that came home with the school being labelled as ‘Lane End Nursery School’. This seems to have affected the book marks and very large prints. If you have one of these and haven’t already come in to school to exchange it then please could you send in a note to let us know which you require and we will send you a replacement home as we now have some correct copies from the printers.

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg
