December - Newsletter 9 (9th December 2014)

Dear Parents/Carers,

School Christmas Dinner – Remember that it is our school Christmas dinner on Thursday and if you have ordered a dinner for your child because they normally have a packed lunch they don’t need their lunch box on this day! All children can bring in a cracker to add to the festive occasion if they wish.

Fundraising for Save the ChildrenChildren can come to school in something festive and/or non-school uniform this Friday (12th December) to help raise money for Save the Children – this could be a Christmas hat, jumper or some tinsel (but please don’t go out and buy anything specially – non-school uniform is fine too). Donations will be gratefully received for Save the Children’s Christmas appeal, thank you.

We raised a fantastic £205.90 for Children in Need through our coin collection – thank you. We had 2 x £2 coins, 47 x £1 coins, 17 x 50p coins, 164 x 20p coins, 196 x 10p coins, 668 x 5p coins, 1572 x 2p coins and 2916 x 1p coins!

We are also collecting for Mission Christmas – if you’d like to donate, please bring in a Christmas gift by Friday and it will go to sick and disadvantaged children to help make this Christmas happy for all children in the Greater Manchester area. Thank you to everyone who has already donated.

As you can see, as a school community, we are trying hard for children across greater Manchester and further afield this Christmas. Thank you for all of your support.

Our children have their Christmas parties next week and the PTA have kindly agreed to fund the parties this year (so no need to send £1 in as before). The Christmas parties are on the following days:

Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 – Wednesday 17th December (AM) (children can come to school in their party clothes but please make sure that they are warm enough for outside play too and that their shoes will be suitable for outside)

Year 3 and 4 – Thursday 18th December (AM) (children can come to school in their party clothes but please make sure that they are warm enough for outside play too and that their shoes will be suitable for outside)

Year 5 and 6 – Wednesday 17th December (PM) (Children should come to school in uniform and bring their party clothes in a named bag)

Junior Christmas Carol Concert – our rehearsals at the church started yesterday and we’re looking forward to welcoming parents and relatives of our Junior children to Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church on Thursday at 7:00pm. There is no need to buy a ticket but we’ll have a charity collection at the end. As the church can get very full on this occasion we just ask that you don’t bring more than 4 people to watch per family – thank you. Children should arrive at the church at 6:45pm and no earlier please.

‘The Grumpy Sheep’ – Infant Nativity. The children did a brilliant job on Monday afternoon and we are really looking forward to Wednesday evening’s performance too. Please can Reception and Class 1 children arrive no earlier than 6:20pm and Year 2 at 6:10pm on the night – thank you.

Lane End Choir – our choir have been doing a fantastic job representing the school at two events recently. Firstly at the Stockport Christmas Choir Festival at St George’s Church which was a lovely evening full of Christmas song and music and which also featured Noah and Scarlett doing a reading. Secondly, on Sunday, at the Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church Community Carol Concert where the choir gave a brilliant rendition of their favourite Christmas song ‘Wisemen’. A huge thank you to Mrs Stutfield for the great job she is doing running the choir (completely voluntarily) and to all of the parents for their support – your children sound great!

A message from Mr Cobley and family: we really appreciate the support the school community has shown us through this difficult time and would like to thank everyone who attended Sue Cobley’s celebration of life at All Saints’ Church. The kind donations given by parents, friends, family and old colleagues of Sue have amounted to approximately £1600 which is going to the school PTA to be of benefit to all of our children.

We break up after school on Friday 19th December and the children are due back in on Tuesday 6th January (as the Monday is an INSET day).

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,

 James Twigg
