February - Newsletter 13 (2nd February 2015)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Parent Governors

Thank you to Mrs Anna Stutfield and Mr Dave Morris the two parents who have put been nominated for the Parent Governor role. As we have two vacancies they will both be able to start and there is no need for an election. I have put their candidate statements below and we are really pleased to have their support and challenge in this important role.

Anna Stutfield: I am keen to increase my contribution to the success of Lane End beyond my current role as director of the school choir. Both my daughters are flourishing at the school and I want to support parents and teachers alike to ensure the innovative methods for teaching the curriculum continue.

Dave Morris: Lane End provides my children with a stimulating and safe environment to learn and grow. Helping the school sustain and enhance this is valuable to me. My role leading people and organisation change programmes equips me with the skills and experience to support commercial and pastoral plans and strategies.

Unfortunately Mr Ward is leaving us at the end of the half term as he is required by his family to go and work for their family business. He really enjoys it at Lane End and we will miss him greatly. We thank him for his hard work and the fantastic impact he has had on sport in the school. We have arranged for Mr Dan Sutcliffe from Junior Sports Stars to do the sports coaching for us on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday afternoons until the summer holidays. Mr Sutcliffe will also be joined by another coach from Junior Sports Stars on Tuesdays for the Year 5 and 6 sessions. Mr Ward has been particularly successful in getting our cross country club training and helping the team to do well in competition. This is something we will certainly continue to build on and we are currently looking into options including hiring a cross country coach for the session each week.

Speaking of cross country there is a race on Wednesday this week at Cheadle Catholic Junior School and we have been informed today that this should be going ahead. Mr Ward has sent a letter home today to the cross country team – please return the slip tomorrow if your child would like to take part.

PTA – We are doing very well with our trim trail fundraising and are now looking at options with the hope of having some equipment installed before the summer. To give us an additional funding boost we will have a non-uniform day on Friday 13th Feb for a donation of £1 to the PTA – thank you for your support.

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg
