February - Newsletter 15 (5th February 2014)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Free school meals for infants - You may have seen in the news that the Government plans to provide free school meals for all infant children (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2) from September 2014. In order to plan for this it would be very helpful to know what percentage of parents are likely to take this up for their child (as instead of a free school dinner children could still bring a packed lunch). School dinners are cooked on site and we are fortunate to have Mrs Harper who is a very good school cook – more information about the dinners is available on this website: https://www.myschoollunch.co.uk/stockport/ (also available as a link from our website). If you have a child in Reception or Year 1 please could you fill in the slip on the reverse of the newsletter to indicate whether you think you will take this up or not – thank you.

PTA Disco – the disco was well attended and went really well; raising £288 for the school. Thank you to the PTA and everyone who helped – we had our biggest ever number of helpers for a disco which is great and made it easier for everyone, thank you!

Target books – everyone should have seen their child’s target/challenge book. Please remember you can write in these and support your child on their target at home. If you’re not sure how it works then please do have a chat with your child’s class teacher as working on the targets together should make a big difference.

VLE Feedback – there is a new section on the website for feedback from parents. Although we carry out an annual Parents' Questionnaire we think that it is useful to get as much feedback as possible throughout the year so we know what is going well and what we could improve. Please go to the ‘Parents’ section and you’ll see the link at the top.

This section of the VLE isn't for addressing issues which you would like further discussion or communication about or you feel are urgent (please come and see us in school if this is the case), rather it is a space to put anything you think it would be helpful to let us know about.

We'd love to hear that you enjoyed an assembly or production, found some information we sent home useful or that your child had been particularly engaged or inspired by a topic, visit or piece of work etc. as this can help us to develop these things further.

We'd also like to know if there was something you thought should be different or improved. Whilst it would be impossible to act on every suggestion, different perspectives are very helpful and, as we do with the parent questionnaire, we should be able to draw some conclusions to build into our school improvement plans and priorities.

Thank you for your ongoing support and help.

Dogs - Thank you for not bringing your dogs on to the playground – please also remember to tie them up further up the road away from the pupil entrance so they are not there as the children arrive at or leave school.

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg

I do   / do not (please circle) intend for my child to have a free school dinner from September 2014 (this is just to give us a good idea of numbers at this early time – you won’t be held to your decision at this stage!).
