January - Newsletter 15 (January 31st 2013)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Author Visit

We all really enjoyed our visit from Tommy Donbavand on Friday.
He did some great work with all of the children. The infants worked on writing a story together using a ‘Story Map’ and acted it out at the end! The Juniors worked with Tommy on developing story characters and getting ideas for stories. It was a brilliant day and Tommy enjoyed it too. He emailed to say: Just a quick email to thank everyone at Lane End for a wonderful day on Friday.  It really was one of my favourite school visits; everyone - staff and pupils alike - were so enthusiastic and friendly.  If only every author event was the same!

Singing Event - iSing Pop During the week commencing Monday 4th March we are going to be working on a singing project in conjunction with Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church and iSing Pop (www.isingpop.com). This will culminate in all of the children recording a CD and a concert at Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church (which will also involve all of the children). The concert will be on Thursday March 14th at 6pm (so please put this date in your diary). Because of the amount space in the church, we will need to limit tickets to two per family. We will send more details home about this exciting event, including information about tickets, nearer the time.

Drop Off and Pick Up -Please help us keep your children safe and let them have a good start and end to each day by being on time for drop off and pick up from school. Children should not arrive unsupervised at school before 8:50am as there is no supervision on the playground. Children should arrive between 8:50am and 9am. From 8:50am, Infants can go inside and the Juniors can go on to the Junior Playground. Pick up time is 3:15pm. Any Junior children who are allowed to walk home on their own should do this immediately as only supervised children should be on the playground after school. If a parent is not there to pick up at the end of the day then we ask the Junior children to come to the school office and the Infant teachers will bring any children from their class back into school so that we can phone home if necessary.   Your help with this is much appreciated.

PTA – The next PTA meeting is on Wednesday 6th February at 7:30pm – everybody is welcome.

Upcoming events – PTA Red Nose Day Disco on Friday March 15th (more details nearer the time).

World Book Day, Thursday 7th March – We will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 7th March and thought there was also no better day to have an official opening of the new school library for the children. We wanted to let you know in plenty of time, as to make the day special children will be able to dress up as a favourite character from a book or, if they prefer, be ’Socktastic’ and be creative with their socks as one of the books we will be looking at is ‘Socks‘ by Nick Sharratt and Elizabeth Lindsay. Around this time we will also be taking part in a sponsored reading event to raise money for ’Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity’ which aims to make life better for seriously ill children.  Mr Toyne is meeting the Pupil Forum to work out the details and we will let you know more about the ‘readathon’ nearer the time. The World Book Day website is worth a visit: www.worldbookday.com

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

We break up after school on Friday 8th February and the children are back in school on Monday 18th February.

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg
