March - Newsletter 17 (3rd March 2014)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Welcome back to the second half of the Spring Term. We have a lot to pack in to a short half term and look forward to a fun and rewarding time.

Parents’ Evening Next Week – Monday 10th (Year 5), Tuesday 11th (all other classes) and Wednesday 12th (all classes) of March. Thank you to everyone who has already signed up – we have most parents attending now but if you haven’t had the chance to sign up already we’d really like to see you there. Please come in to school or phone to arrange your slot. Thank you.

The following teacher led clubs won’t be on next week because of Parents Evening: Girls Football and Football Club.

PTA – Our sports themed family event is on Friday 21st March at 6:30pm. There will be competitions and games in the school hall for the whole family to join in with. We really hope that you can make it. A letter will come home tomorrow with details and a reply slip.

World Book Day – this Thursday (March 6th) – as mentioned before half term the children can come as a character from a book: as wild and wacky or subtle and refined as they choose! We’ll have a fancy dress competition with a prize for the winner from each class and an overall KS1 and KS2 winner. Children can also bring a £1 donation in if they choose – all of the money will go to Book Aid International who provide books to children in sub-Saharan Africa.

Football Club with Mr Toyne and Mr Ward – Football club is resuming and Mr Toyne is arranging matches for the team to play. When there is a match on there won’t also be training in the same week. Mr Toyne will give the details of the team before each match. There is a match this Thursday (6th March) against Ladybridge at home. Because Mr Toyne and Mr Ward are now running the football again Chess and Scrabble Club and Team Building Club have come to an end for the time being (as mentioned on the club letter at the beginning of term).

Cross Country – Congratulations to Jasmine Brown who has been picked to represent Stockport in the Greater Manchester Cross Country Championships to be held at Heaton Park, on Saturday 22nd March. This is the first time that we have had a child from Lane End represent Stockport at the event – good luck Jasmine, we’ll be rooting for you!

Zumba – the Thursday morning Zumba class for children is continuing this half term after a great start last half term. Please fill in the slip (letter coming home today) and return by Wednesday with payment if you’d like your child to take part. Liz Stringer who runs the club is also looking into the possibility of running a holiday club from school.

Maths Week – Our maths week will be held on the last week of this half term – w/c 31st March (a slight change from the previously advertised date). We will be holding maths based challenges, competitions, activities and events for the children during the week.

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg
