October - Newsletter 4 (9th October 2014)

Dear Parents/Carers,

Harvest Assembly – We welcomed Reverend Peacock to the school yesterday who is the new minister at Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church. He came with Emma Coe from the church to talk to the children in assembly about the importance of Harvest. Our Harvest collection this year is for the Wellspring Kitchen and we’d like children to bring in their harvest gifts on Wednesday 22nd October when we will be talking about Harvest and the Wellspring in Assembly for our Harvest Festival. The Wellspring would be very pleased to receive tins of food and dried food, in particular tins of meat (e.g. meatballs, tinned chicken to add to stew etc.). Thank you very much for your help with this.

The 22nd October will be a busy day as we also have Zoolab coming in to show their range of animals to all classes from Reception up to Year 4 – they will be covering different topics with each class to fit into their work in class, e.g. seasonal changes, light and dark and the environment. Year 5 and 6 will be busy too with their Money Skills Workshop with Barclays Bank on this day.

NSPCC –Another big thank you because we have so far raised an amazing £2621 for the NSPCC. Helen Redman from the NSPCC came into school yesterday to collect the money and deliver the badges for the children and she was over the moon with the total. There is probably a bit more to come in too – Helen will be back next Wednesday to talk to the children again in assembly and say thank you for the sponsorship money so if you still have some at home please send it in by then. For a small school to raise that much money is phenomenal – thank you all for your generous support!

PTA Disco – The PTA Disco is next Friday 17th October – there is still time to get your ticket, please send your reply and money back ASAP.

Walk to School Fortnight – the weather hasn’t been the best for our Walk to School Fortnight so far which has made us even more impressed with the excellent response. We are continuing for the rest of this week and all of next week so children should keep remembering to get their passports stamped.

Road Safety Week – We will be emphasising road safety with the children during National Road Safety Week from 17 – 23rd November. We are doing this in conjunction with The Brain Injury Group and Thorneycroft Solicitors who will once again be providing prizes for some exciting design competitions. More details will come home about this nearer to the time.

I feel it is important to bring up road safety again during our Walk to School Fortnight too. Lots of children and families do walk to and from school and need to cross the road after school. The overwhelming majority of our parents park safely and considerately – thank you. However, it is unacceptable that we still have a small number of parents parking on the zig-zag lines outside of school. I know that there is an issue with some of the parents from Ramillies Hall School but I have also heard reports of our parents parking here on occasions. We have contacted Ramillies Hall and have also spoken to the PCSO who will be doing more regular patrols. Please do not park on the zig-zag lines as it is unsafe for the children - as adults we all need to model expected behaviour on the roads.

Zambia trip – Miss Rainey is travelling to Zambia with teachers from two other Stockport schools over the half term holidays to visit our partner schools. She is taking the fantastic art work that the art club have done with her as gifts for the three schools. She will also be bringing back stories and photos from her trip and organising an international sports event whilst she is there - we will be competing in this against the Zambian and Stockport schools on her return! If any of the children would like to write a letter for Miss Rainey to give to the children and schools when she gets to Zambia please send it in to school by Thursday 23rd October.

School Values Competition – I have started to receive some lovely competition entries displaying the school values. Children can design a poster which names one or more of the values and which illustrates them. The deadline is next Monday (13th October) and the prizes are as follows:

Infants first prize - a visit to Simply Books in Bramhall with £20 to spend on books and cake and hot chocolate

Infants runners up prize - a visit to Simply Books in Bramhall with £10 to spend on books and cake and hot chocolate

Juniors first prize - a visit to Simply Books in Bramhall with £20 to spend on books and cake and hot chocolate

Juniors runners up prize - a visit to Simply Books in Bramhall with £10 to spend on books and cake and hot chocolate

I’d love some more entries – have a go over the weekend! Remember our values are: Excellence, Determination, Inspiration, Respect, Courage, Equality, Friendship

VLE – the VLE is up and running for each class and you have all received usernames and passwords. Please do have a look at the available resources.

Parents Evening: Our parents evenings are quite soon after the half term holidays. Sign-up sheets will be in school from 8am on Tuesday 4th November. We would like to see all parents please.

Monday 10th November - Year 1 and 5 only (later night)

Tuesday 11th November – Reception, Year 2, Year 4, Year 6 (later night)

Wednesday 12th November – all classes

Date for Year 3 to be confirmed next week.

(Please note the change of late night from that advertised in the school calendar)

Class photos: if you would like your child’s photo please return the payment by Monday morning as it is being collected then – thank you.

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,
