October - Newsletter 6 (20th October 2016)

Dear Parents/Carers,

We break up for the half term holidays after school on Friday (21st October) and the children are back in school on Monday 31st October – have a lovely half term break everyone!

Thank you for all of the support during our Walk to School fortnight and to Mr Vallance and our Year 4 Passport Control Officers who organised it. Well done to everyone who walked, scootered or cycled to school over the fortnight. We’ve had a total of 1059 walks/scoots/cycles with Year 3 being the top class so far. The winning class will each get a strider badge (the foot icon shown above) and if your child’s passport has all of the stamps it can be handed in tomorrow and entered for a prize draw for some Halfords vouchers (one prize for infants and one for juniors)! We also support National Road Safety Week each year which is running from 21-27 November. There is a competition for the children to get involved in this year and there will be more information coming home after the holidays.

Targets – all children should now have a copy of their target in their homework book. This is a longer term target which has been selected to challenge your child appropriately and to also be appropriate for practising at home over a term. Your child also receives regular targets from their teacher in school as part of the teacher’s marking and feedback. There is information below the target which gives you examples or further information about what your child needs to do. Please help by supporting your child to practise and work towards achieving their target. Any specific work can be shared with their class teacher in the back of their homework book.  Thank you for your support.

Seesaw – many classes have now been sent home information about ‘Seesaw’ which is a new way of linking home and school and allows us to let you know about and see photos of the children’s work, activities and class events via a secure app and/or website. We’ve had some great feedback already from parents who are using it. If you haven’t signed up already then please do so when you get the letter from your child’s class teacher (each letter is individual to a specific child). If your child hasn’t had this information yet it will come home soon after the half term holidays. Seesaw gives us another way of making closer links between home and school and we hope you enjoy the insight it gives you into your child’s work, learning and time at school.

We’ve had another busy week full of learning with, once again, many visitors in to help enhance the curriculum – thank you to Peter Fraser from Bible Encounters who came to deliver assembly on Monday about the story of Zacchaeus and understanding different perspectives. Thank you to Cheadle Fire Brigade who visited Year 6 on Tuesday to talk about Fire Safety and thank you to John Paddock and the team from Barclays Bank who were in school on Wednesday delivering their fantastic ‘Money Skills’ sessions to Year 5 and 6.

Parents Evenings – The sign-up sheet for our parents’ evenings will be available from 8am on Wednesday 2nd November – please come in to school or phone (if you are unable to come into school) from this date. Parents evenings are on Monday 14th (later night) and Wednesday 16th November for all classes except Year 3 who have their first evening on Wednesday 9th November and their second on Wednesday 16th November.

PTA News

Thank you to everyone who came and supported the PTA Quiz last week – it was a fun evening and we had a 50th Anniversary twist to the quiz. Thank you to Bev Sangster for organising.

A reminder that we have a non-uniform day tomorrow (Friday 21st) to help raise money for the children’s Christmas parties. Any extra money will go to PTA fundraising for books for the school library and reading schemes. Please could children bring in a donation of £1 (or more!) on this day. Thank you.

PTA Christmas Fair

Everyone should have received an envelope with raffle tickets to sell for the Christmas Fair – this is a good fundraiser for the school and there are also some great prizes to be won so please do try and sell as many tickets as you can. The money is due back to school by Monday 21st November. There is also a slip on the letter that came with the raffle tickets which you can return to school to indicate you can help – please do help this year if you can as the fair isn’t possible without a lot of volunteers. Thank you for your help.

We also need volunteers to help get as many raffle prizes as we can! If you can help please let Bev Sangster or Natasha Howells know on the playground or via the PTA Facebook Page – thank you!

On Thursday 17th November at 9am in the community room at school there is a final meeting for Christmas Fair arrangements. If you’re able to help out with wrapping or shopping before the fair please come along!

Attached to this newsletter is a Christmas card design sheet for the children. This is a great activity for the children over half term and gives you a unique and memorable Christmas card to send out this year. It also helps raise much needed funds for school so please do give it a go. They are due back to school by Tuesday 9th November.

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg
