September - Newsletter 2 (15th September 2016)

Dear Parents/Carers,

We’ve had an excellent start to the term and the new Reception children are settling in very well indeed. It’s great to see each class hard at work and enjoying their time in school.

Curriculum maps have gone home with class newsletters and we hope that you find these useful. Please do remember that there is a great deal of information for parents about school on our website – go to the ‘Parents’ section and have a look around! The ‘General Information’ section goes over many of the general school policies and procedures you need to know as a parent.

A school calendar is attached to this newsletter for your information. This is also on the website in the ‘Parents’ section. Our first PTA meeting of the year is on Wednesday 21st September at 7:30pm (all welcome) – following this we will update the calendar with planned PTA events for the year. We can, however, already let you know that our annual, not-to-be-missed Quiz Night for parents and friends of the school is on Friday 14th October from 7:30pm. Put the date in your diary and there will be more information home soon – all parents are warmly invited.

Our main 50th Anniversary Events will focus around the anniversaries of when the school took its first children (4th April 1967) and when it was officially opened (23rd June 1967). We will be holding a special 50th Anniversary theme week this year on the week commencing 27th March (as close as we could get to 4th April as it is in the Easter holidays!). We will also be holding a 50th Anniversary street party on Friday 23rd June – exactly 50 years from the official opening of the school.

Thank you for the responses to our parent questionnaires at the end of last year. It is very rewarding for us all to receive such positive feedback and know that the overwhelming majority of parents are very pleased with our school. I think that the whole school community can be proud about how well the school and our children are doing. We are always aiming to improve further and the full questionnaire analysis and our improvement plan for parents will soon be available on the school website – click on either ‘Lane End Parents Say’ or ‘Parents’ and then ‘Parental Comments’ to see a summary of the feedback and the improvement plan.

School Phone – our phone line has been affected by the storms on Tuesday evening. BT are working on solving the problem and we expect it to be fixed very soon. However, if you are having difficulty contacting school please email admin@laneend.stockport.sch.uk and we will get back to you as soon as possible. Apologies for the inconvenience and I hope that you all managed to weather the storm safely – the children were full of tales about the thunder, lightning and torrential rain the next day!

ParentPay – we have been very pleased that the overwhelming majority of parents/carers have signed up already and are using the system – thank you. If you haven’t done this yet please could you have a look at it ASAP – you’ll need to sign up even if your child doesn’t have school dinners so that you can pay for school trips etc. If you have any difficulties please let us know as we are also learning about how to best use it to make things easier for home and school.

P.E. Kit – we are also delighted that the overwhelming majority of children are already wearing the new kit – thank you for your support with this; the children really do look much smarter and better prepared in P.E. and games lessons now. If you haven’t managed to sort out the new kit yet please could you organise this as soon as possible this half term – thank you.

Twitter – We now have 100 followers! If you haven’t yet followed us on Twitter then please do so – it is a very easy way to share our work in school with you, let you know a bit about what the children are learning and communicate about events etc. We are @LEPCheadleHulme and there is a link on our website to our page.

Class Assemblies – Dates for this term: Class 5 on Thursday 3rd November at 9:20am and Class 4 on Thursday 10th November at 9:20am – parents/carers and relatives of the children in these classes are warmly invited to join us on for the class assembly. Other classes will hold their assembly later in the year and we will let you know the date nearer the time.

Harvest Assembly – our Harvest Assembly is on Thursday 29th September and Reverend Peacock from Cheadle Hulme Methodist Church will be coming in to talk to the children. We are making a Harvest collection again for The Wellspring Kitchen - a charity which supports people who are homeless in Stockport. They would gratefully receive: coffee, shampoo, tinned meat, tinned spaghetti, beans, tinned veg, soup, tinned fruit, custard, rice pudding, tea, sugar, long life milk or other long life or tinned products. Please help out if you can: children can bring in their gifts from Friday 23rd September until Thursday 29th September – thank you.

We aim to be approachable and work in partnership with parents, so if there is anything you wish to discuss, please do not hesitate to come and talk to us.

Yours sincerely,

James Twigg
